Our selection of the best Fulham bars

We’d say Fulham is essentially an extension of its equally expensive neighbour to the east. Both are riverside, leafy green, full of swish bars and shops, and their football clubs are rivals. For all that, Fulham has more of that neighbourhood feel.

From Fulham Broadway to Parsons Green to King’s Road, the entire area can be a little rich for our blood, but that doesn’t stop us from lurking in the gastropubs and wine bars of Fulham. The beer gardens and commons are just lovely, the wine bars serve Japanese sake, and this is the home of the only Michelin-starred pub in London (of course it is).

It was quite the chore, a really hard day’s work, we laboured long and hard, but we’ve put together a little list of bars worth visiting Fulham for, and believe us when we say Fulham has some lovely little spots.

1. The prettiest traditional pub in Fulham: The Mitre

Fulham, London

Located a short walk from Fulham Broadway, The Mitre is hard to miss with its Tudor-like whitewash walls with black half-timbering and leaded windows – traditional and ever so pretty. The garden is lovely in summer, and the pitter-patter of rain on the skylights makes dreary winter days feel not so bad, maybe even enjoyable.

Inside there is the best of traditional design with contemporary touches. It’s laid-back, the kind of place with candles in old spirit bottles and cool prints in frames.

The Mitre is our top pick of pubs for a couple of reasons: the people, the cocktails (particularly the Bloody Mary), the delicious food that won’t break the bank, and (most importantly) the atmosphere – and those sweet, sweet live music nights.

2. The flatshare house party: The Little Blue Door

Fulham, London

A short distance from Parsons Green station, The Little Blue Door looks like a single-floor flat because that’s exactly what it is. The decor is homely and relaxed yet cool with funky little touches.

Across London, there are several little doors of various colours that offer this experience of a house party with a cocktail bar menu, and this Fulham bar is no different from its sister bars. The ambiance is exactly what you want from a house party but with way better food and drinks. The Little Blue Door – cool, casual, and a good time all around.

It’s a great one for private hire. Book the Study for up to 25 people, the Kitchen for up to 60 people, and the Living Room for up to 90 people (it’s a big living room).

3. The only Michelin-starred pub in London: Harwood Arms

Fulham, London

It may have the highest accolade in the world of cuisine, but the Harwood Arms is still a laid-back gastropub, unfussy and unpretentious, with a dedication to seasonal British produce with an emphasis on game and wild food. Outside and in it looks the part of a traditional pub.

The focus is naturally on their seasonal menu – including the vegetables sourced from their rooftop garden in the warmer season – but make no mistake, this is a Fulham bar, complete with an impressive wine list, sherry, port, draught beer, and cask ale. We recommend their Sunday Roast which is served all day, but you can’t go wrong paying a visit to the Harwood Arms any day of the week, just make sure you have a reservation.

4. The trusty neighbourhood wine bar: Vagabond Fulham

Fulham, London

Fulham is exactly the type of area to have a neighbourhood wine bar, that’s probably why Vagabond’s flagship location is here. This Fulham bar has been serving over 100 wines with its unique self-pour wine machines from its cosy little confines since 2010.

With a whole bunch of houseplants and tables with tealights, we can confidently say Vagabond has mastered the cool and relaxed wine bar by now. A great spot for tastings, a date night, or just a catch-up over wine, cheeseboards, and charcuterie. Vagabond is always dependable, but Fulham being its first spot makes it that little bit more special.

Vagabond is just cosy enough for private hire, with a capacity of up to 65 people, you can book out the entire Fulham location for a special occasion.

5. Finally, a wine bar & shop that sells sake: Brinkley’s

Fulham, London

We have to recommend Brinkley’s for several reasons, the most important being that they sell the Japanese rice wine known as sake. We fully expect to see more London establishments taking note and following suit.

Brinkley’s is a Fulham bar that belongs to a local, family-owned chain of independent bars, restaurants, and wine shops. We equally recommend Brinkley’s for feeling independent and being dedicated to good food and greater wines.

Olivia’s food menu champions fresh ingredients and seasonal dishes. With a selection of over 500 wines, alongside champagnes, spirits, sake, and beers, Brinkley’s Fulham could easily keep you inside their cosy brasserie or out on their tree-shaded terrace for hours.

6. The village local: The Rose

Fulham, London

The Rose – an idyllic pub within the heart of Fulham village, complete with a walled garden, Sunday Roasts, craft and local draught ales, and cigars – we dare say it’s the English rose of pubs, lovely, charming, and gloriously English.

This Fulham bar is a locals’ bar known for its summer BBQs, aforementioned Sunday Roasts, and ever-changing menu that showcases the best of British ingredients. Cocktails, cigars, comedy nights, and a fireplace surrounded by leather sofas. We think we’ve said enough for you to understand why it’s on our list.

The Rose loves hosting private parties. Its private dining room can accommodate 45 for dinner or lunch parties and 60 for drinks and buffets, and they have lovely areas in the garden for a private dinner or barbecue.

7. A pub by any other name: The White Horse or The Sloaney Pony

Fulham, London

The White Horse or The Sloaney Pony to some, whichever name you prefer what matters is this Fulham bar is a local’s place and loved for its atmosphere and extensive range of cask ales, craft beers, fine wines, and artisan spirits.

Perched on the edge of Parsons Green, near the shops of popular King’s Road, and conveniently located near the District Line, The White Horse is recognisable by its white Victorian architecture and tree-shaded terrace. Leather booths, a saloon bar, and loved by locals.

The White Horse has a range of areas for private hire including a private room and between the food menu, drinks, and atmosphere, you can’t go wrong here.

8. The contemporary, chic, and stylish gastropub: Brook House

Fulham, London

Located across from Eel Brook Common, Brook House is modern through and through. A cream interior accented by sage-green and warm wood furnishings with a tree dominating the centre of the space. It’s leafy and green, just like the Common across the road.

The seasonal menu features quality British ingredients, and the Fulham bar’s cocktail menu could give any cocktail bar a run for its money with simple yet sophisticated classics. We like the greenery of the pub, the dog-friendliness, and the fact that they don’t offer high chairs. This is definitely one for the adults.

9. The Fulham champagne & cocktail bar: Amuse Bouche

Fulham, London

We don’t know if gets more Fulham than Amuse Bouche – the name, the location smack dab in the centre of Parsons Green, and the fact that they pride themselves on serving vintage champagne alongside their signature cocktails. It’s very bougie, but then, it’s Fulham.

Champagne, cocktails, and the ideal small plates to complement all that glorious booze, and let us not forget this Fulham bar has a cigar menu. Having said that, we highly recommend the Smokey Negroni cocktail with an H. Upmann half-corona cigar – it’ll cost you a pretty penny, but when in Fulham do as the Fulhamites do.

Amuse Bouche is available for private hire for all types of occasions, so if you really want to impress your friends and family, book a bespoke private hire package here, dress up as Mr. Monopoly, and dish out champers and cigars to all your pals.

10. A riverside pub along the Thames: The Waterside

Fulham, London

Located in the nexus of Fulham’s Sands End, Chelsea Harbour, and Imperial Wharf, The Waterside is known for its riverside and marina views. The highlight of this Fulham bar is definitely its location and terrace.

Inside, the interior is a slightly strange mixture of contemporary furniture with dated floral wallpaper, but the views and terrace mean we can forgive the unusual choice in interior design. The Waterside is a Young’s pub, and so it may not match the other pubs on this list in having a unique character, but there’s a place for it by virtue of its riverside terrace seating on a sunny day.

The Waterside is available for private hire for several types of occasions both inside and outside including the the Boulevard Terrace which is a smaller, more private outdoor space.

Define Your Event Vision:

Before you start searching for the ideal bar in Fulham, it's essential to have a clear vision for your event. Ask yourself the following questions:

What type of event are you planning (e.g., a birthday party, corporate happy hour, cocktail reception, or a themed event)? How many guests do you anticipate? What is your budget for the bar and any additional services you may require? Do you have specific preferences for the bar's atmosphere, music, or décor?

Online Platforms:

Amenities and Services:

Different bars offer various amenities and services. Ensure that the chosen bar can accommodate your specific needs, such as a diverse drink menu, catering, live entertainment, and customisable décor options.

Budget Planning:

Having a well-defined budget is crucial. Request detailed quotes from each bar, including the rental fee, any additional charges, and deposit requirements. Negotiate when possible but be prepared to make compromises to secure your preferred venue.

Catering and Refreshments:

Discuss your catering and beverage requirements with the bar. Determine whether they have an in-house kitchen and customisable menus or allow external catering. Consider your guests' dietary preferences and any specific drinks you'd like to serve.

Event Timing and Reservations:

Check the bar's availability on your desired date and time. Some bars have specific reservation policies, minimum spending requirements, and timing restrictions that could affect your event, so ensure they align with your plans.

Contracts and Agreements:

Carefully review the terms and conditions of the bar's contract. Pay close attention to the cancellation policy, payment schedule, and any other important details. Make sure that all agreed-upon services and amenities are specified in the contract.

Accommodations and Transportation:

Consider the availability of accommodations for out-of-town guests attending your event and assess the convenience of public transportation options for your attendees, ensuring they can reach the bar easily.

By following these steps and considering your event's unique requirements, you can choose a bar that aligns with your vision and creates a memorable experience for your guests.
