Our favourite Peckham bars

Peckham is a microcosm of London's many, many complexities. The current face of the seemingly endless cycles of gentrification which wash through the city, it's often a flashpoint neighbourhood for what the capital is, and what it's becoming. What we do know is that it's got character in bucketfuls, and enough bars to please anyone who finds themselves stepping foot off Rye station.

Peckham's well served by tried-and-tested boozers, community music bars, and drinking holes at the cutting edge of the London drinking scene. Here are a few of our favourite bar venues in South London's most un-placeable neighbourhoods.

1. Top-notch cocktails and a vinyl record shop: Funkidory

Peckham, London

A little shopfront looking as funky as its name in its retro typeface above the door. Fukidory is a sweet little Peckham bar, vinyl record and bottle shop specialising in cocktails, natural wine, and music of the Funk, Disco, Hip-Hop, and Soul variety. The cocktails are some of the best you’ll find in Peckham, but the tunes alone should lure you in. It’s cool, it’s casual, it’s all hunky-dory. Find Funkidory on Peckham Rye about 5-minute walk south of the station.

2. A Hi-Fi music bar for the audiophiles: Jumbi

Peckham, London

You can find Jumbi in a brick warehouse right near Peckham Rye station. At the heart of Jumbi is a wall of vinyl records and speakers, just as it should be – Jumbi is a listening bar with a bangin’ sound system. But also at its heart are the sounds and flavours celebrating the African-Caribbean diaspora.

Why do we love it? DJ Bradley Zero’s wall of records, of course, and the overall vibe under a giant disco ball and hanging plants. We want for nothing else at this Peckham bar and neither will you.

3. The proper boozer with pool & darts: The White Horse

Peckham, London

The White Horse, about a five-ish minute walk south of Peckham Rye station, is a no-frills boozer that’s been a public house since the early 19th century, although the beer garden is a little more on the frills side – that is to say, it’s lovely. And it probably has one too many potted plants to be an old-school boozer, but we don’t think the added greenery is a bad thing.

A drink for everybody, Sunday Roasts, and DJ sets on Fridays and Saturdays, but what we love about this Peckham bar is that it’s the best place to meet pals for a casual drink and a game of pool without any of the judge-y side-eye from waiting players.

4. Natural wines & a delicious plant-based kitchen: Omni

Peckham, London

We love the Omni bar & kitchen because we can get our fix of natural wines and share top-tier plant-based small plates with our pals. Located near Peckham Rye Park, we appreciate Omni’s commitment to sustainability and good flavours. The place is cosy, relaxed, and casual.

This is the kind of place where we order wine by the bottle rather than the glass and it’s always worth it. Its wine list is comprised of unique natural wines, sourced from small independent producers across Europe, all of which perfectly complement the flavours of Omni’s seasonal menu. Another top pick destination in our books for private hire in Peckham.

5. Wine & cocktails with city views and terrace dining: Forza Wine

Peckham, London

Forza Wine is at The Rooftop at 133A Rye Lane, just across from Peckham Rye station. Self-described as the ‘younger, taller, better-looking sibling of Forza Win’, this Peckham rooftop bar went in for minimalism in the design and decor so that you could take in the rooftop views of the city, drinking aperitivi, signature cocktails, and wines.

Simplicity and doing simple perfectly are what Forza Wine is all about. We go for the view and stay for the wine, cocktails, and bar snacks that pair so well with wine and cocktails.

6. In the groove: TOLA

Peckham, London

Tola is a rooftop Peckham bar but with an intimate feeling. We head here for two things: cocktails and tunes – it highlights the best of London's sound system culture and underground dance culture on weekends.

Tola keeps it simple with rustic walls, industrial light fixtures, and the requisite amount of potted plants one expects from any southeast London establishment. The cocktails are great and we’re into the more cosy vibe of its rooftop terrace.

The Garden Room is available for private hire for up to 25 seated or 50 standing. It opens onto the terrace and comes with direct access to the dancefloor and a private bar open till 4 a.m.

7. A wine bar and bistro: Peckham Cellars

Peckham, London

There are several reasons we love Peckham Cellars, the first being it was founded by three long-time friends and residents of Peckham, and it’s got that neighbourhood wine bar feel. It’s relaxed, cool, and exactly what you imagine a Peckham wine bar to be. Take your friends and enjoy a good meal with a monthly changing seasonal menu and even better wine.

Peckham Cellars has three spaces available for private hire, all with different dates and times of availability. Peckham Cellars can accommodate 32 seated, Little Cellars can accommodate 22, and Cellar Next Door which is available for private wine tastings can accommodate up to 12.

8. Why have one cocktail bar when you can have two at Peckham Arches

Peckham, London

Taking its name from its home under the railway arches at Peckham Rye station, the Peckham Arches is a 600-capacity event space with a large garden terrace, 2 cocktail bars, an open-fire kitchen, and an art gallery.

Industrial, bright, a healthy amount of green foliage, and – our favourites – giant speakers and a disco ball. With live music, DJ sets, and great food and drinks, we like to sip our favourite cocktails on the greenhouse-like covered terrace amongst all the greenery, fairy lights, and good tunes. You can find us there come rain or shine and it’s absolutely worth the visit to Peckham.

9. Cocktail lounge, event space & rooftop garden: CLF Art Lounge

Peckham, London

CLF is a triple threat – speakeasy cocktail lounge, arts & event space, and year-round rooftop garden. Centrally located next to Peckham Rye station, CLF is one of our top picks for private hire in the area, specifically for its stunning rooftop garden, but equally for its dimly lit Art Lounge of a cocktail bar with framed canvases on the walls and velvet sofas. Expect live music, cabaret, and comedy nights.

The rooftop garden is a lovely little green space we head to for live music and events. You can catch live music both in the garden and inside the lounge, and no matter where you are the drinks are strong, and the Dominican food will lure you back to this Peckham bar again and again.

10. A multi-storey car park reinvented and repurposed: The Bar & Food Hall at Peckham Levels

Peckham, London

We're big into repurposing places that still serve the community. Located on the 5th and 6th floor of Peckham Levels, the Bar & Food Hall is a spacious, minimalist, industrial space decked out in splashes of colour, potted plants, and rugs to create a casual, cool, and relaxed space.

Grab some eats, grab some drinks, or just catch some tunes or an event, this Peckham bar is multi-purpose as well as multi-storey. With an amazing view of the city skyline, a full-level take-over in private hire offers you and your guests a unique experience in one of London's most distinctive venues.

11. What’s one more rooftop bar? Skylight Peckham

Peckham, London

Skylight Peckham bar is another of the rooftop variety, and why not, the views of the city are stunning from this southeast neighbourhood. Skylight has it all – views, cocktails, brunch, live music on Thursday nights, hot desking from £10 a day, and a snow machine in winter – yes, you read that correctly. Between the views and hospitality, Skylight is popular for private hire and corporate bookings, and once you’ve seen its terrace you’ll understand why.
