1. Let’s go Dutch…or American?: The Dutch

SoHo, NYC

Despite its name, there is nothing Dutch about this restaurant; instead, it’s a flavorful melting pot of elevated American dishes. The Dutch masters the diverse flavors of American fusion cuisine with dishes like scallion-chipotle cornbread, Chinatown calamari with cucumber and chili crisp, or beer-steamed clams with bacon.

Host an event in this casual modern venue basked in warm, dim lighting. Your guests will enjoy a private dining room, bar, and the option for personal audio-visual setups. The Dutch can host up to 10-20 of your closest friends.

Whether you have 10 or 100 friends, Bar Tulix will host your birthday celebration with fruity cocktails and flavorful tacos and snacks. Most importantly, save room for dessert and blow out the candles on the decadent Tres Leches or chocolate cake.

4. How an old mechanic shop can be your next private dining venue: Antique Garage SoHo

SoHo, NYC

Antique Garage is an old mechanic shop transformed into a lavish dining room covered in portraits and chandeliers, with an ornate staircase centered in the back. Dine in this elegant warm ambiance with classic Mediterranean delicacies and crafted cocktails, and make sure to book your birthday on one of their popular live jazz nights.

Order some authentic mezze or a main with an American and Parisian spin like the lamb burger with chipotle aioli or moules frites. A must-order drink is the Cucumber Cosmo, a creative Mediterranean twist on the classic cocktail with white cranberry, fresh lime, and cucumber juice. Celebrate your birthday at Antique Garage for a snazzy yet homey feeling. Contact the restaurant to learn more about guest capacity.

5. Burgers, beer, and birthday cake shakes: Black Tap Craft Burgers & Beer - SoHo

SoHo, NYC

Enjoy a fun, casual private dining experience at this award-winning retro SoHo staple. If you want to have an indulgent meal with your friends to celebrate another year around the sun, Black Tap Craft Burgers and Beer allows you to gorge on burgers with savory sauces and sides, or an array of pub food. They even have a falafel vegan burger option, so there’s something for everyone.

Aside from their prized burgers, their signature cocktails, like the cherry cola old-fashioned, will wash the food down well in time for their main attraction: Crazyshakes. This is the best and only way to celebrate your birthday by ordering the Cake Shake or the New Yorker – milkshakes topped with an entire slice of birthday cake or NY cheesecake). Contact the restaurant to learn more about guest capacity.

6. Not the price of your SoHo private dining experience: Twenty Three Grand

SoHo, NYC

Thankfully the name of this restaurant refers to its address on Grand Street and not the cost of anything but it's swanky enough that the name could have a double meaning. Plush blue booths, potted trees, and a black-and-white checkered floor sit beneath a retractable glass roof that makes the restaurant feel like a botanical garden.

There’s a dedicated team at Twenty Three Grand on hand to help you organize your event, whatever it may be. Choose from the Main Dining room with the retractable roof, the fully exclusive Signature Room with its stunning arched wooden roof and private bar, or the tree-adorned Back Bar & Terraces. Enjoy an elevated New American menu, fine wines, and signature cocktails.

7. A contemporary SoHo private dining experience: Charlie Bird

SoHo, NYC

Located on King Street at the top end of SoHo, Charlie Bird is a laid-back restaurant and bar that’s opted for understated decor and minimalism with little touches of textures from exposed brick walls and wooden floors to capture the eye.

The menu is New American with a generous hat tip to Italian cuisine devised from ingredients from New York’s farmer's markets and Long Island fishing boats. It’s elevated but not pretentious, and a well-read wine menu. Charlie Bird pulls off the low-key neighborhood spot.

The private dining room is a rarity in the area because it is an actual fully private dining room. It seats 14 guests to enjoy Charlie Bird’s Italian-inspired menu and wine. If you’re lucky enough to have more friends than that the restaurant is also open to a full or partial buy-out.

8. From Midtown to SoHo: Pera

SoHo, NYC

Pera’s SoHo outpost can be found on the corner of Broome and Thompson, and if you’ve never been to their Midtown original let us fill you in: the chic, modern Mediterranean eatery has a great selection of private dining spaces.

The Star Room is fully private and can accommodate up to 40 seated guests. The Eastbound Tram (to confirm, that’s definitely a room) can seat 32 guests or 30 for a cocktail reception and can be combined with the Westbound Tram which can accommodate up to 20 guests. There’s also the private Gazebo which seats 36 or the semi-private Pergolas. If you’re after flexibility and variety in your SoHo private dining experience then Pera should be at the top of your list.

9. From French storybook to SoHo eatery: Little Prince

SoHo, NYC

Little Prince is storybook quaint, its whitewashed brick exterior is adorned in ivy and other greenery, and there are little tables outside surrounded by more lush plants, it’s the kind of hole-in-the-wall place that tugs on your curiosity until you just have to go inside.

While the modern French eatery on Prince Street doesn’t have a private dining room, it more than welcomes a private book out of its pocket-sized bistro. It can accommodate up to 40 seated guests or 60 for a standing reception.

Little Prince is not all ambience with no substance, the contemporary French menu and presentation puts it on the map as one of SoHo’s top eateries, in our opinion.

10. Not your run-of-the-mill Italian: Ciccio Bar & Alimentari

SoHo, NYC

It’s always a good sign when a restaurant is very specific about the cuisine they specialize in. Ciccio doesn’t pitch itself as an Italian eatery, it’s Tuscan, specifically, it’s Florentine. The boutique restaurant and alimentari (food shop) can be found in the cross-section of SoHo and the South Village on 6th Ave and while the neighborhood spot is too small to have a private dining room, its size lends itself to being booked out for private events.

It’s an overused term but Ciccio is cozy, it’s intimate and relaxed, the kind of place you want to spend a couple of hours while sharing a meal, Tuscan wine, and a cocktail to finish just because you can and they’re good. We like its boutique size, the stunning Florentine menu, and the ambience – arguably the most elusive thing for a restaurant or bar to capture.
