Our selection of the best Fitzrovia cocktail bars

Named after Fitzroy Square or the Fitzroy Tavern (we’ll probably never know the answer), Fitzrovia is well-known for many things: the BT Tower, theatres, restaurants, cafés and bars, and for making your pockets hurt.

This iconic London neighbourhood is famous for its glitzy reputation, so maybe you’ll catch a celebrity sipping an Aperol. Even if you don’t, we’ve decided to assemble a list of Fitzovia’s best cocktail bars.

1. The classic basement cocktail bar: The Lucky Pig

Fitzrovia, London

If you’re craving drinks in a gothic Victorian-style basement under obligatory dim lighting, make your way to The Lucky Pig. This subterranean cocktail bar is decorated with upholstered furniture, gold-framed photos, and statement wallpapers.

Among the eye-catching cocktails, we recommend the Silent Summer, a refreshing and floral gin drink, or the Pecan Smoked Old Fashioned, which is infused with smoke made from pecan wood chips. Order a round. If it’s a weekday, stay for the live music. If it’s a weekend – don’t worry, you’re also in luck – this Fitzrovia cocktail bar likes a DJ set.

2. Brunch and booze: Riding House

Fitzrovia, London

Right off Great Titchfield Street, Riding House serves drinks and dishes in a retro-inspired brasserie setting. The Masako Martin, with sake and lychee liqueur, is a crowd favourite – lychee has the power to brighten any drink. The brunch at this Fitzrovia cocktail bar is also no joke.

We give kudos to the green-thumbed interior designer for the potted plants hanging from the ceiling, it suits the natural light streaming in from the windows. The plush mohair seating around the beer-barrel tables is good for a gossip session, and everyone needs a little bit of that.

3. Inspired by ‘A World of Suzie Wong’: Lucy Wong

Fitzrovia, London

Put that time machine away – we have 1950s Hong Kong here in London. Lucy Wong is a Fitzrovia cocktail bar famous for its Asian twist on British afternoon tea, serving Cantonese-inspired bites, but we think the cocktails are a showstopper, too. Try the Pandan Milk Punch for a flavour punch, or the Shanghai 75 garnished with an opened rambutan.

Lucy Wong’s interior is nothing short of swanky. The lanterns bathe the bar in warm lighting, and the artwork includes Chinese-styled paintings with Asian motifs. The space is chic, contemporary and utterly Instagrammable.

4. A botanical Fitzrovia cocktail bar: Waeska

Fitzrovia, London

Upon entering Waeska, your attention is immediately drawn to the hybrid animal sculpture of a peacock and a gazelle. The bar’s aesthetic borders on A Midsummer Night's Dream, reflected in cocktail names like “Tears of God” and Sea of Light.” We recommend the “Imori” with ingredients including yuzu juice and matcha syrup.

The botanical-based menu is influenced by ethnobotany – the study of how people of a particular region use traditional knowledge to use indigenous plants.

With its banging cocktails and unique ambience, Waeska is an intimate spot for a rendezvous with a Hinge date.

5. Spreading the gospel: Reverend JW Simpson

Fitzrovia, London

We think cocktails are a fine art, but we’ll leave the preaching to Rev. JW Simpson. This Fitzrovia cocktail bar is named after the reverend who occupied the flat until 1986. The space is scruffy chic with its colourful striped walls, cushy chairs, and stained glass features (to cement that church feel).

If you want to indulge in a spirited sermon, Rev. J W Simpson offers cocktail masterclasses for a hands-on experience. Shake and drink the recipes to life, and let the holy spirit move you.

6. Painting the town coral: The Coral Room

Fitzrovia, London

While roses are red and violets are blue, The Coral Room is, of course, coral. This modern Art Deco-styled bar has a hearty selection of drinks and food options. The cocktail menu is conceptually based around the Emerald Isle. Yes, you can taste Galway; it’s a concoction of Irish whiskey, bee pollen, gin, and Irish malt soda.

This Fitzrovia cocktail bar is a grand saloon-style space, conjuring a countryside feel in bustling, busy London.
