Known as The Ditch, the Town Hall’s warren of basement spaces occupying the entire footprint of the building offers a completely different proposition to the grandeur of the upper levels.
A real architectural gem, The Ditch consists of dozens of interconnecting highly atmospheric rooms, mostly left untouched and distressed, many with original features such as fireplaces and cooking ranges.
Benefiting from its own ‘secret’, speakeasy style entrance off Old Street, as well as alternative entrance and exit points, The Ditch has its own facilities and can operate entirely independently of the Town Hall above. Popular for exhibitions, filming, product launches and functions the spaces also now host a regular contemporary theatre and performance programme.
